that the head needs replacing?

I own an Oral-B Triumph electric toothbrush. The digital display started flashing saying "Replace Head", so I took the head off, and put it back on.. the message still stayed on the display, this started me thinking.

So I found a new head, slid it onto the body and the message was no longer displayed. So, I thought to myself, will it know, now that I have cleared the message by attaching a new head, if I re-attach the old head - well, the answer here is yes. Straight away the flashing "Replace Head" message was displayed...

How does it know! How intelligent is my toothbrush? and is it happy cleaning my teeth?
